The wizard is originally depicted as a student of the Academy in the tutorial, going there to learn. It's implied in the Old Sock description that they also wear socks, but this was never added to their in-game design. The default appearance (as seen in the tutorial) is a male/female wizard bearing a variant of the Magi's Shroud and the Training Wand.
